Sir Arthur Stanley Eddington è stato uno dei più importanti astrofisici dell’inizio del XX secolo. Durante l’eclisse totale del 29 maggio 1919 furono confermati sperimentalmente gli studi sulla deviazione dei raggi luminosi da parte del Sole e tali sperimentazioni contribuirono in maniera decisiva all’affermarsi della Teoria della relatività generale. Fu grazie a uno degli articoli di Sir Eddington, dal titolo Report on the relativity theory of gravitation, che gli studiosi anglofoni scoprirono le teorie di Albert Einstein.
1919 Solar Eclipse
Sir Arthur Stanley Eddington was one of the most important astrophysicists of the beginning of the Twenty First century. He observed the solar eclipse of the 29th of may 1919 and could thereby confirm the theories regarding the deviation of light rays experimentally. His observations helped establish the theory of relativity. Thank to his article Report on the relativity theory of gravitation, also anglophone scholars discovered Albert Einstein’s theories.
