Fra gli estimatori di Mitsou ci fu Marcel Proust, il quale dichiarò: “Ho un poco pianto stasera, per la prima volta dopo molto tempo, eppure da un pezzo sono oppresso da dispiaceri, da sofferenze, e da seccature. Ma se ho pianto non è per tutto questo, è leggendo la lettera di Mitsou… Le due lettere finali sono il capolavoro del libro”. Proust, celeberrimo autore dell’opera in sette volumi Alla ricerca del tempo perduto (À la recherche du temps perdu) lavorò alla stesura del suo capolavoro anche durante la guerra e riuscì a pubblicarne soltanto nel 1918 il secondo volume dal titolo All’ombra delle fanciulle in fiore (À l’ombre des jeunes filles en fleurs) presso l’editore Gallimard. Nel 1919 Proust per questo romanzo fu insignito del prestigioso premio letterario Goncourt.

Marcel Proust showed his appreciation for the novel writing: “I cried a bit tonight, for the first time after so long, I have been oppressed by grief and trouble for a long time, but I did not cry for this reason, I cried while writing Mitsou’s letter. The last two letters of the book are a masterpiece.” Proust, the renowned author of the novel in seven volumes In Search of Lost Time (À la recherche du temps perdu), had the second part of his work In the Shadow of Young Girls in Flower (À l’ombre des jeunes filles en fleurs) published by Gallimard in 1918, the delayed publication being a consequence of the outbreak of the war. In 1919 this novel was awarded the Prix Goncourt.
