“Soltanto amando e rispettando i nostri amici animali si può trovare la vera pace e una grande serenità”, affermò Colette, scrittrice e giornalista francese, nel suo La pace tra le bestie (La paix chez les bêtes). Gabrielle-Sidonie Colette aveva cominciato a scrivere collaborando alla stesura di alcuni romanzi del primo marito Henry Gauthier-Villar e, solo una volta divorziata, iniziò a scrivere firmandosi col proprio nome. Durante la Prima Guerra Mondiale intensificò l’attività giornalistica e sviluppò interesse per il cinema, scrivendo articoli di critica cinematografica e sceneggiature originali.
Nel 1919 pubblicò Mitsou ovvero come le fanciulle diventano sagge (Mitsou ou Comment l’ésprit vient aux filles) che, malgrado la critica discorde, ebbe grande successo.

Gabrielle-Sidonie Colette’s career began helping her first husband Henry Gauthier-Villar in writing a few novels. Once divorced, she went on signing her novels with her own name. During the First World War (1914-1918) she intensified her activity as journalist and developed a new interest for cinematography, she wrote articles of film criticism and screenplays. In 1919 Mitsou was published. Even if not all the reviews were positive, the book was a great success.
