Durante questo periodo Maugham continu\u00f2 a scrivere: nel 1916 fece un viaggio nelle isole del Pacifico, al fine di raccogliere materiale per il romanzo <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La luna e sei soldi (The Moon and Sixpence),<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ispirato alla vita di Paul Gauguin.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>W. Somerset Maugham, The Moon and Sixpence<\/b><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">William Somerset Maugham was too old to actively participate to the First World War, but he contributed as an ambulance driver in France with the English Red Cross troops, together with other 23 writers, among them were Ernest Hemingway, John Dos Passos e E. E. Cummings. During this whole period of time Maugham kept on writing.
